PUBLIS RECORDS: THE NURSERY

a global pandemic forced this young music venue to adapt. the balancing act was between 1 ) making up for lost revenue and rethinking operations and 2) growing the brand and reputation as one of New York’s favorite haunts for music lovers. all with limited space and finite resources.

after the initial shipping container studies with Shane Davis unlocked El Camino as the new entrance to the Sound Room, it was time to program the experiential and material concepts for the rest of the containers and the adjacent lot.

“Local firm Mattaforma designed a U-shaped, passively heated and cooled greenhouse from shipping containers for the space, which can serve as private dining in good weather and as storage for Public Records’ ample plant collection during the winter. L.A.’s Cactus Store offered landscape design, while Brooklyn’s Space Exploration iterated the elegant DJ booth.” - Surface
